“52” is a song I made about the story of “The Worlds Loneliest Whale”. Also known as “52 Hertz Whale”. His calls are at a unique frequency of 52 Hertz when in comparison to the blue and fin whales which are usually around 15-40 Hertz. He has been roaming the pacific since the 70’s and calling out to an ocean that can not understand him. A foreign frequency not interpreted by any other whale. His story resonates with a world of people who feel mirrored by his story of never being understood. The connection between human nature and this whale is what fascinated me the most. How do we know he feels alone if he has never felt the connection of a relationship with another whale? What we do know is that he still calls out to this day, thirty years later.
